Description:

Location. The Carefree Resort and Villas is located just north of Scottsdale, where giant saguaros dominate the arid terrain. Guests can shop at the resort's unique boutiques, or play golf at one of 20 courses near this Arizona resort. Other recreational options near the resort include mountain biking trails, Sonoran Desert jeep tours and hot-air balloon rides.
Hotel Features. A stroll through the Carefree Resort and Villas' grounds reveals botanical gardens and a stream with wildflowers, towering saguaro, giant ocotillo and prickly pear cacti set against a backdrop of mountain vistas. Guests can swim and relax at the resort's three outdoor pools and play tennis on five lighted tennis courts. Visitors can exercise in the fitness center, where floor-to-ceiling windows offer gorgeous views of the mountains and desert landscape. The spa features six treatment rooms, a nail salon and intimate lounge. A variety of treatments are offered, including facial, body scrub, manicure, pedicure and massage. The Lariat Grill serves American and regionally influenced Southwestern dishes. At the Red Horse Saloon, a replica of a turn-of-the-century watering hole, guests can play billiards and darts while enjoying burgers, salads and pizzas. The Roadrunner Café, where guests can surf the Internet, serves lunch, pastries, specialty coffee drinks and juices. Wireless Internet access is available in the lobby and pool areas.

Expert Tip. Carefree is 1,000 feet higher in elevation than Phoenix, resulting in an air temperature that is, on average, five to ten degrees cooler. Javalina, coyote and quail are sighted on a regular basis.
