Description:
fiogf49gjkf0d Location. Set against a mountain one kilometre from the sea, this opulent 19th-century style hotel is 500 metres up from the street connecting the Sorrentine Peninsula villages and less than two kilometres from Sorrento centre. Naples Capodichino Airport is 50 kilometres away.
Hotel Features. Open in the summer months, the outdoor pool is surrounded by a sundeck offering views of the bay and city of Naples, Mount Vesuvius, and the Lattari Mountains. Sun loungers and umbrellas are also available on the adjacent rooftop terrace.
Windows Restaurant is a semi-circular space with large windows, crystal chandeliers, and brocade table linens. It serves Italian cuisine for dinner daily. The Grand Hotel La Pace also has an ornate lounge bar and a casual open-air restaurant, open during the summer.
Open from April until the end of October (except Fridays), the mirror-walled fitness centre offers free weights, cardio machines, and a weight machine, and includes separate male and female locker rooms with saunas and three-person spa tubs. Massages (surcharge) can be arranged by appointment.
Guestrooms. Grand Hotel La Pace offers 119 guestrooms and suites over seven storeys. Opulent decor includes ochre-fabric walls, moulded-stucco ceilings, inlaid-wood furniture from a Sorrentine workshop, and marble bathrooms with shower/tub combinations. Suites have floral carpeting, while rooms feature yellow ceramic-tile floors with decorative hand-painted patterns from the famed workshop of Vietri on the Amalfi Coast. Amenities include wired and wireless Internet connections (surcharge), safes, minibars, bathrobes and slippers, and satellite TV. All rooms and suites open onto balconies.
Expert Tip. Although it can go unnoticed by guests walking through the wide space between bar and lounge area, beneath a glass table under a skylight is a wood cherub sculpture produced by Gian Lorenzo Bernini and his son, Paolo. Bernini was the artist who created the Baroque style of sculpture in the 17th century and also earned renown as an architect in Rome.
