fiogf49gjkf0d Built in 1972, the Hotel Athena is a modern hotel with classical motifs that commands a position near the ancient city walls of Siena, 300 metres from Piazza del Campo where the famous Palio horse race is run each year. Its 100 guestrooms are either modern or traditionally styled and all benefit from air conditioning and heating. In-room comforts standard to all rooms include direct- dial phones, cable television and minibars.
Guests can wine and dine under the exposed wooden beams in the restaurant, open daily for dinner to hotel guests only and serving international and Italian cuisine with many traditional Tuscan dishes. The bar on the seventh floor opens onto a roof terrace with panoramic views over the city, the walls and the soft rolling countryside; restaurant service on the terrace is provided in the summer season. Guests can make use of 24-hour room service and dial-up Internet connections are available in public areas. Conference facilities include a well- equipped meeting room with a capacity of 80 people. Complimentary garage parking is also provided for those arriving by car. Guests wishing to see the sights should stroll into the town and visit the cathedral and the San Francesco Church both just 200 metres away. The hotel is approximately 60 kilometres or a 60-minute drive from Florence Airport. A half-hourly bus transports passengers to Santa Maria Novella Station, in the centre of Florence, where a train connection can be taken to Siena railway station. A bus can also be taken from the airport to the San Dominca bus stop.
