Description:

Location. The Hotel le Richelieu is located in La Flotte on the Isle de Re, France, 500 metres from the village centre, five kilometres from Saint Martin, and 15 kilometres from La Rochelle. The Lighthouse of Baleines is 25 kilometres from the hotel.
Hotel Features. Hotel le Richelieu is a Mediterranean-style building overlooking the sea, and sheltered by the jetty of La Flotte harbour. There is a heated outdoor swimming pool, and fitness equipment is available. The Thalassotherapy spa and beauty centre offers a sauna and various treatments. Complimentary newspapers are available in the lobby, and room service is offered during restaurant opening hours.

Hotel Richelieu's restaurant features ivory- tinted wood-panelling, and large picture windows looking out over the sea. Gastronomic French cuisine prepared with fresh local ingredients is served, with the emphasis on fish and meat dishes. Light seafood dishes are served al fresco on the wooden terrace at lunchtimes. There is also a bar, with dark wood panelling and large antique-style mirrors.

Bicycles can be rented at reception, and the nearby beach offers a range of water-based recreation, including sailing. Horse riding lessons are also available one kilometre from the hotel.

Guestrooms. The 40 air-conditioned guestrooms and bungalows overlook the sea or the garden; most have terraces. The rooms are decorated in warm natural colours, with antique-style furniture, parquet floors, rich fabrics, and wood-panelling. All include satellite television, telephones, minibars, safes, refrigerators, and a daily complimentary newspaper during the week. Bathrooms include bathrobes, complimentary toiletries, and hair dryers.

Expert Tip. The Phare des Baleines, at 57 metres high, is one of the highest lighthouses in France. There are 257 steps to the top, from where there are panoramic views over the island and the ocean.

Driving Directions

From La Rochelle Airport (LRH):
Distance to Hotel le Richelieu is 23 kilometres, approximately 35 minutes' drive.

Getting there. A frequent bus service departs from the airport every 10-20 minutes, and travels to Place Verdun, in the centre of La Rochelle. The journey takes approximately 10 minutes and costs 1.20 EUR for a single ticket. Taxis from the airport cost approximately 12 EUR to the same destination. From La Rochelle railway station, the Ile de Re bus Aunis Saintonge takes visitors to the island, all through the year. Prices are all subject to change.

Getting around. The immediate area can be explored on foot. The rest of Isle de Re can be explored by car, bicycle or local bus. Boat trips run to the neighbouring island of Aix, or the harbour of La Rochelle.
