Coffees and gateaux in the hunting-lodge tearoom on the ground floor; popular with a more mature age group. Restaurant options include goulash ($9), sausages and sauerkraut, and fondue. Familia Weiss , Palacios and O'Connor (tel 02944/435788). A perennial hit with visitors. Try ciervo a la cazadora (venison in a creamy mushroom sauce; $13) or a picada selection of smoked specialities. Evening shows range from salsa to cheesy Julio Iglesias covers. Open 8am-3am. Friends , Mitre and Rolando. Open 24hr, so perfect for night owls. Burgers for $4, pizzas for $7, and beers and spirits from $2.50. La Bohemia , Moreno 48 (tel 02944/423182). A "piano restaurant", with a relaxed, nostalgic ambience and excellent food, ranging from seafood to mixed grills. A $5 plato del dia is served at lunchtimes in high season. Live tango and jazz on Fri and Sat (from 9.30pm). La Marmite , Mitre 329 (tel 02944/423685). No bargain, but recommended for its regional and Swiss specialities, especially its fondues. Intimate, old-fashioned setting. Closed Sun lunch. La Tavola , in the Hotel Edelweiss , San Martin 202 (tel 02944/426165). High-class cuisine: prawns on saffron with a creamy champagne sauce ($16.50), fondue for two ($22). Rock Chicken , Quaglia 283 and San Martin 88. A value-for-money fast-food joint, one branch of which is always open in the "dead phase" of the afternoon, when other restaurants are closed. Open late (6am).
