fiogf49gjkf0d NeuquAŠn's
airport
(tel 0299/444-0446) is 5km west of town off the RN22, and is connected by two buses to the terminal: Turismo LanAn and #11 (every 40min; 30-40min; $0.90); a taxi will set you back around $10. The airport has a tourist information desk (Mon-Sat 8am-8pm, Sun closed in the morning; tel 0299/444-0072). By land, the main RN22 bisects the south of town and is called Avenida FAŠlix San MartAn to the east of the main drag,
Avenida Olascoaga
, and Dr T.L. Planas to the west. The
bus terminal
is at Mitre 147, two blocks north of FAŠlix San MartAn, and a block and a half east of the central boulevard. A spate of thefts has been reported at the bus terminal, so take extra care. To use NeuquAŠn's urban buses, you must buy a ticket in advance from any kiosk ($0.65).
The very helpful main
tourist office
(daily 8am-8pm; tel 0299/442-3268, fax 443-2438;
turismo@neuquen.gov.ar
) is at FAŠlix San MartAn 182, two blocks down Calle RAo Negro from the bus terminal. It has an excellent
map
of the town plus information on the whole province, including a good regional road map.
It's fairly easy to find your way round town: you'll find everything you need in the
microcentro
, which effectively comprises the area to the north of the RN22, three blocks on either side of the central boulevard. Where it crosses the obsolete railway tracks, three blocks north of the RN22, this boulevard's name changes from Avenida Olascoaga to
Avenida Argentina
. All of NeuquAŠn's other north-south streets likewise change names as they cross the railway. Streets that run east-west change name as they cross the central boulevard. Do not confuse FAŠlix San MartAn (the RN22 to the east of Olascoaga), with Avenida San MartAn, running west from Avenida Argentina to the Museo Municipal, one block north of the railway tracks. Unusually for an Argentinian town, NeuquAŠn has no central square and, stranger still, only the merest scrap of a Plaza San MartAn. If anything rates as the central square, it would have to be the partially landscaped park on either side of the railway tracks.
