All long-distance buses arrive at the terminal on Avenida Shaw between Pejerrey and Lenguado, seven blocks north of Avenida Bunge. The train station , with a daily service from Buenos Aires (ConstituciA?n), is a couple of kilometres north of the town centre, just off Avenida Bunge; from here it's a short taxi ride into town, or there is a connecting bus service to the bus terminal. Pinamar shares an airport with Villa Gesell (tel 02255/460418), some 25km south off the RP11.

With its glossy brochures advertising golf courses and estate agencies, the tourist office at Bunge 654 (daily 8am-8pm; tel 02254/491680; municipalidad@telpin.com.ar ) is heavily geared towards Pinamar's wealthy visitors, but they do provide decent maps and guides of the resort; there's also a 24-hour multilingual touch-screen information post outside.

Hotels are plentiful, if generally expensive, in Pinamar : as in all resorts, reservations are advisable in high season. Discounts may be possible at the friendly and well-kept Sardegna , Bunge 1055 (tel & fax 02254/482760; $80-100); each room has a television and telephone. The lovely Posada Pecos on the corner of Odiseo and Silenios (tel & fax 02254/484386; $60-80) has an attractive, slightly rustic feel, with tiled floors and a bar with outside seating in a quiet area near the beach; after January prices go down considerably, particularly if you pay in cash. Pinamar's longest established hotel, attracting an older clientele, is the elegant Playas at Bunge and De la Sirena (tel 02254/482236, fax 482226; $100-150), which has its own swimming pool. The ugly but luxurious Algeciras at Av. del Libertador 75 (tel 02254/485550, fax 481161; $150-200) offers a presidential suite as well as swimming pool, sauna and a nursery. You'll find the area's most atmospheric hotel in Ostende ; the Viejo Ostende , at Biarritz and Cairo (tel & fax 02254/486081; $100-150), is a beautifully preserved reminder of the days when this pioneer resort hosted literary figures such as the Argentine authors Adolfo Bioy Casares and Silvina Ocampo as well as Antoine de St-ExupA©ry, author of The Little Prince . Rooms are simple but elegant and comfortable and the hotel has its own swimming pool. Breakfast, dinner and a beach tent at the hotel's balneario are all included in the price. There's also a nursery, making it a good choice if you're with small children.

Budget accommodation is practically non-existent in Pinamar - try the reasonable Hospedaje Valle Fertil on tree-lined Cangrejo between Centauro and Valle Fertil (tel 02254/484799; $30-45), some distance from the beach. The Bologna , at Jason 497 (tel 02254/482242; $45-60), has some pleasant rooms including three with large balconies. There is a large youth hostel in Ostende at Bme. Mitre 149 (tel 02254/482908; $10 per person), which is a bit run-down, but well located on a quiet sandy street overlooking the sea; it has a huge kitchen and you can pitch tents in the small garden at the back. There are only a handful of campsites in Pinamar: Quimey LemA? lies just 250m north of the entrance to the town, along the RP11 (tel 02254/484949; www.pinamar.net/camping/quimey ), and is set in attractive wooded grounds with plenty of facilities from showers to shops. More convenient if you don't have your own transport is the small but well-located Camping Saint Tropez , at Quintana and Nuestras Malvinas (tel 02254/482498), just north of the youth hostel. Both sites charge around $15 per pitch for up to four people.
