fiogf49gjkf0d Trelew's
airport
(which also serves Puerto Madryn) is situated 5km northeast from the town. There's a Banelco cash machine and a simple
tourist office
counter that opens for flight arrivals and dishes out maps of the town.
Remise
taxis cost $8 to Trelew. You'll find branches of all the major car rental agencies. Airport departure tax is $4. The
bus terminal
is within easy walking distance of the town centre. Mar y Valle buses head to Madryn via the airport every hour; 28 de Julio buses depart for Gaiman and Dolavon every half hour, and for Rawson every fifteen minutes. Trelew lies roughly equidistant between Buenos Aires and RAo Gallegos (1430km and 1200km respectively), with buses either way costing about $50. The terminal has a cafAŠ upstairs that does a reasonable
tenedor libre
but is otherwise fairly expensive. There's also a
tourist booth
(Mon-Fri 10am-1pm & 6-9pm, Sat 6-9pm). The helpful main
tourist office
is at San MartAn 171 (Mon-Fri 8am-8pm, Sat 10am-1pm & 6-8pm; tel & fax 02965/420139).
Most
hotels
are open 24 hours, but phone in advance if arriving late. The hotels above the budget category usually offer a ten to twenty percent discount for cash payment.
Residencial Argentino
, Moreno 93 (tel 02965/436134). A basic hotel, but very close to the terminal. $20-30.
Hotel Avenida
, Lewis Jones 49 (tel 02965/434172). The least expensive lodging in town, and good for single budget travellers. Friendly and well situated but spartan; with shared bathrooms. $20-30.
Hotel Centenario
, San MartAn 150 (tel & fax 02965/426111 or 420542). A fairly standard hotel with comfortable rooms. $80-100.
Hotel Libertador
, Rivadavia 31 (tel & fax 02965/420220 or 426126). None too stylish for a four-star, and with an overpowering smell of cleaner fluid, but warm rooms and friendly, efficient staff. Beds have well-sprung mattresses, and there's a bathtub in most rooms. $60-80.
Hotel Rayentray
, San MartAn 101 (tel 02965/434702, fax 435559). Very 1970s in style, but upper rooms have bathtubs and good city views. Also equipped with swimming pool, gym and sauna. $100-150.
Residencial Rivadavia
, Rivadavia 55 (tel 02965/434472, fax 423491). Clean, centrally heated rooms, with $50 quadruples. $20-30 with shared bathroom; more expensive upstairs.
Hotel Touring Club
, Fontana 240 (tel & fax 02965/425790 or 433997). Take yourself back to the 1920s in this faded Art Deco historic monument. Rooms are centrally heated and comfortable, though they don't live up to the promise of the facade. Make full use of a bar as long as a football pitch and stocked with a terrifying array of dusty bottles of dodgy spirits. $30-45.
