Bike rental Johnny Windham, 135 Argent St (tel 08/8087 3707), rents mainly mountain bikes; $5 per day, $25 per week, plus obligatory helmet $2; closed Sat & Sun. The Tourist Lodge hires bikes to guests at similar rates. Bookshops ABC Centre, 309 Argent St, specializes in local history and the Outback (tel 08/8088 1177). There is also free access at the library, on the corner of Blende and Chloride streets, but you have to book. Laundry Oxide Street Laundrette, 241 Oxide St. Service washes available, with free pick-up and delivery (tel 08/8088 2022). Pharmacy Amcal Chemist, Westside Plaza, Galena St, has an after-hours emergency number (tel 08/8088 5639) but the most central pharmacy is Peoples CP Chemist, 323 Argent St. Post office Cnr Argent and Chloride streets, NSW 2880. Swimming pool There are two municipal outdoor pools: Alma Pool, Voughtman St, South Broken Hill (mid-Nov to late March daily 9am-6pm; $1); and North Pool, north of the centre on McCulloch St (daily: April-Oct 6-8.30am & 10.30am-6pm; Nov-March 6-8am & 9am-10pm; $2), which is heated in winter.
