fiogf49gjkf0d Griffith Street (the Gold Coast Highway) and the parallel, seafront Marine Parade run south for about a kilometre from the edge of town to the border, with a handful of short streets connecting them. At the border, Griffith Street kinks sharply inland as it enters Tweed Heads, while Boundary Street continues south (uphill) to Point Danger.
The long-distance
bus depot
is actually 150m over the border in Tweed Heads, just off the highway at Golden Gateway Travel, 29 Bay St (Mon-Sat 7.30am-5.30pm, New South Wales time; tel 07/5536 1700) - there's no station as such, and if Golden Gateway is closed, you just get set down on the pavement. The Gold Coast
airport
(flight information on 13 1300) is 3km north of Coolangatta, from where Airport Transit
shuttle buses
(book in advance on 1300/655 655) run to Coolangatta and all points to Surfers Paradise for $11 one-way and $16.50 return. Coolangatta's helpful
information centre
(Mon-Sat 8am-5pm, Sun 10am-2pm; tel 07/5536 7765) is on the corner of Warner and Griffith streets, about halfway down Griffith towards the border.
Taxis
can be booked on 13 1008 while
car rental
is available through Thrifty (tel 07/5536 6954), at the Gold Coast Airport, with prices starting at $35.
