fiogf49gjkf0d Not surprisingly, all
tours
from Hervey Bay involve
Fraser Island
; day-trips start around $65, overnight camping trips at about $150. Top Tours (tel 07/4125 3933 or free call 1800 624 677) is a little pricey at $82-119 depending on the itinerary, but gives the best one-day tour, with BBQ lunch, new vehicles and first-rate guides - it also seems to work out of phase with rival tours' schedules, so you don't keep bumping into busloads of other visitors. Alternatively, Fraser Venture Tours (tel 07/4125 4444) scores slightly higher for its overnight trips with accommodation at Eurong ($165). Otherwise try Wilderness Adventure (tel 07/4120 3333, fax 4120 3326), a two-day tour including accommodation at
Kingfisher Bay Resort
($198); and Sand Island Safaris (free call tel 1800 246 911) for three-days-worth covering most of the island (including accommodation at
Eurong Beach Resort
, $250).
Cruises
include Stefanie Yacht Charters (free call tel 1800 650 776,
www.stefanie-charters.com.au
), who spend 2 days or longer cruising around Fraser's western side, with the chance to see dolphin year-round, do some kayaking and land on the island. The cost is dependent on the number of passengers and the exact itinerary. Outside the whale season, Whalesong (tel 07/4125 6222,
www.whalesong.com.au
) spend four hours around the bay looking for dolphins, turtles and - with real luck - dugong (manatees) at $70 per person. Alternatively, Krystal Clear (tel 07/4124 0066) allow four-five hours for snorkelling, coral viewing, and a BBQ lunch on a small sand island in the bay for $56.
