With its two huge chimneys illuminated at night - the Rotary lookout on Hilary Street gives a good view - MIM is the city's major landmark, west of the often dry Leichhardt River . The Barkly Highway runs through town as Marian and Grace streets, with the city centre immediately south between Simpson and West streets; it then crosses the river and joins the Camooweal Road in front of MIM. All buses pull in across the river at Campbell's Coach Terminal; trains terminate at the station below MIM; and the airport is 7km to the north, where taxis meet arrivals. The tourist information office (daily 8.30am-5pm; tel 07/4749 1555) is in the Riversleigh Fossils Interpretive Centre on Marian Street, and can make all tour bookings.
