There are direct
flights
from Melbourne, Moorabban and Hobart to
Launceston Airport
, near the town of Evandale, 20km south of the city. The
Airport Shuttle Bus
(tel 0500/512 009) meets most flights and drops off at your accommodation for $10. A
taxi
costs about $20, or you could
rent a car
- the main car companies have desks at the airport.
Long-distance
buses
arrive in the city centre: Tasmanian Redline Coaches, at 18 Charles St (tel 03/6336 1444), will also drop you off at accommodation as far out as the
Treasure Island Caravan Park
; Tassie Link (tel 03/6272 7300) will drop you at the Information Centre. There's no problem with
parking
in the city centre - if the short-term metered parking is full, there are loads of
car parks
around, charging $1.10 an hour ($7 per day). Most streets operate on a
one-way system
and the length of Cameron Street is interrupted by Civic Square, and Brisbane Street by the Mall. Other useful information
