With Melbourne as a base, a wide variety of tours can be made to the interior of Victoria or both east and west along the coast. Popular destinations - both as
day-trips

- are to the Grampians, Phillip Island and the Mornington Peninsula, and along the Great Ocean Road. For

Day-tours to the Brisbane Ranges and You Yangs, west of Melbourne; longer trips to the Ballarat goldfields, Grampians, Great Ocean Road, remoter parts of East Gippsland and Tasmania. Two-day tour to the Great Ocean Road departs twice-weekly and includes an overnight stay in a house owned by the tour company ($99). Oz Experience (tel 1300/300 028). Backpacker transport service doing regular runs three times weekly along the south coast to Adelaide and four times weekly going to Sydney; all major sights visited on the way to Adelaide (Great Ocean Road and the Grampians) or Sydney (Phillip Island, the High Country, Canberra and the coast south of Sydney).
