There's an information centre (May-Sept daily 8am-5pm; tel 08/9168 6262) off the main road in the middle of town. For somewhere to stay , the Halls Creek Caravan Park (tel 08/9168 6169), Roberta Avenue, has tent sites, grim single cabins (under $20) and more spacious on-site vans ($35-50). The Shell Roadhouse (tel 08/9168 6060) has twin-share cabins ($50-70), and the relatively salubrious Kimberley Hotel (tel 08/9168 6101, fax 9168 6071), opposite the caravan park, has pokey bunkhouses (under $20) and motel units ($70-90). It's also the only pub and decent restaurant in town, although there's a bakery on the highway. But for somewhere special head out to The Lodge by the Old Town (tel 08/9168 8999; $50-70), a little oasis overlooking the spinifex-covered ranges, which glow at sunset.

If you fancy flying over the Bungle Bungles , call Oasis Air (tel 08/9168 6462) or Kingfisher Air (tel 08/9168 6162) a day or two in advance. The ninety-minute early-morning flights are the ones to go for, costing around $120. Alternatively, rent a 4WD for between $75 and $125 per day from the Mobil Roadhouse (tel 08/9168 6164) on the highway. Halls Creek and Bungle Bungle Tours (tel 08/9168 6060) offer various tours , including a day in the Bungles for around $130.
