Bicycle rental About Bike Hire, Barrack Street jetty (tel 08/9221 2665), has bikes for riverside cycling from $15 a day, or try the hostels. Secondhand bikes from WA Bicycle Disposals, 278 Hay St, East Perth (tel 08/9325 1176), from around $80. They also offer an informal rental and buy-back service, plus local and regional cycling maps.

Buses Greyhound Pioneer (tel 13 2030), for interstate services; Integrity Coach Lines (tel 08/9226 1399 or free call 1800 226 339) head north up the coast to Exmouth three times a week; South West Coach Lines (tel 08/9322 5173), for daily services to the Margaret River Region as far as Augusta; Westliner (tel 08/9250 2838), for twice-weekly services to Kalgoorlie, Leinster and Laverton; Westrail (tel 131053), for daily services south and east of Perth and, less frequently, north to Kalbarri and Meekatharra. All have offices at the Wellington Street Bus Station, but interstate and Westrail country buses come and go from the East Perth Terminal.

Car rental Perth's car-rental companies are among the cheapest in the country and while the "$25 per day" deals should be scrutinized carefully, a week's rental is the best way of exploring relatively compact areas such as the Southwest at your own pace.
