Innumerable cafAŠs and restaurants crowd the streets of Zell's central pedestrianized zone. Most offer standard Austrian dishes at mid-range to expensive prices, although almost every establishment serves inexpensive traditional staples such as Pinzgauer KA¤snockn (gnocchi-like noodles covered in cheese) and GrAļstl (potato pieces, onion and meat fried in a pan) alongside the schnitzels and steaks. Fresh fish from the lake also features heavily on most menus. Given the town's favour as a winter resort, there's a reasonable nightlife on offer, much of which stays open for the bulk of the year.

For snacks , Moby Dick , on the corner of Kreuzgasse and Salzmannstrasse, is a fishmongers with a small sit-down section, selling cheap fishy sandwiches and more substantial servings of cod and chips. CafAŠ Vanini , a two-storey wooden pavilion on Bahnhofstrasse, is the best place to relax over cakes, ice cream and coffee.
