San Ignacio has several good, inexpensive restaurants . The Saturday market is the best in Belize, with local farmers bringing in freshly harvested produce, and you can pick up good fresh bread and and snacks at the Torres Bakery in West Street.

San Ignacio is a popular weekend spot for Belizeans and there's a range of live music and dancing on offer. The Western Bar , overlooking the market, is a typically Belizean club : dark and extremely noisy. Next door, overlooking the river, the Culture Club (above El Cenote sports bar) is a much better bet, with Latin and Afro-Cuban sounds mixing with Belizean beats. The Blue Angel disco, on Hudson Street, has bands at weekends, but has lost its pre-eminent position in the local music scene to the Cahal Pech Tavern , on the hilltop next to Cahal Pech Maya site.

Eva's Bar , 22 Burns Ave. Belizean dishes and daily specials, though service is variable. Usually busy in the evenings, when it's a great place to meet travellers and local tour operators.

Hannah's , 5 Burns Ave. Delicious, authentic Indian cuisine, freshly prepared and worth the wait.

Martha's Kitchen , West St, behind Eva's . Under the guesthouse of the same name, and just as well-run. Great breakfasts, local coffee, pizza and traditional Creole food. There's usually a vegetarian choice, and always delicious cakes for dessert.

Maxim's , Far West St, behind Martha's . One of the best of San Ignacio's numerous Chinese restaurants, with large portions.

Serendib Restaurant , 27 Burns Ave. Excellent Sri Lankan curries and seafood at very reasonable prices, and with good service too.
