Books Florianopolis' bookshops are poor, but you may find something of interest at Livros e Livros, Rua Deodoro 191, sala 2; Lunardelli, Rua Victor Meirellas 28; Insular, Rua Felipe Schmidt 51, sala 103; Livraria Catarinense, Rua Deodoro 425 and in the Beira Mar Norte Shopping Center.

Car rental Avis (tel 048/236-1426), Hertz (tel 048/236-9955), Localiza (tel 048/236-1244), Unidas (tel 048/236-0607) and YES (tel 048/236-0229) are all represented at the airport and can arrange delivery in the city centre. During the peak summer season advance reservations are strongly recommended.

Post office The main post office is on Praca XV de Novembro.

Shopping The Beira Mar Norte Shopping Center is on Avenida Rubens de Arruda Ramos heading north from the centre. Apart from numerous surf-oriented shops, it contains all the usual Brazilian fashion brand-name shops. At the former waterfront, the Alfandega building is now an arts and crafts market, though the quality of the merchandise is disappointing.
