Both the Rodoviaria and Santa Genoveva airport (tel 062/207-6411 or 207-1288) lie in the northern sectors of town. The Rodoviaria (tel 062/224-8466) is around twenty minutes by foot from Setor Central along Avenida Goias, or a short ride by local bus. The airport is also linked to the centre, 6km away, by bus (#190 or #162 "Circular Aeroporto"); a taxi to most central hotels will cost around $8. To catch local buses in town, there are main stops on Avenida Araguaia just south of Rua 4, and along Avenida Goias opposite Hotel Paissandu. There's a tourist information booth (daily 8am-6pm; tel 062/281-2111) at the airport, which has free maps, though better maps ($1.50) can be bought from the newsagent opposite. In the centre, the regional tourist authority, SEBRAE, has an office on Rua 30 at the Centro de Convencoes (tel 062/217-2055, www.goiania.net).

The wide central streets are almost handsome in their blend of pre-war continental-style grandeur with modernist concrete and glass, skyscraping offices and homes for the rapidly growing middle-class population of the city. The main node of the concentric city plan is the Centro Civico and Praca Dr Pedro Ludovico, at the head of the massive Avenida Goias, whose broad and leafy pavement extends all the way down its middle between both directions of busy traffic. The city is divided into several sectors, the most important being the Setor Central, Setor Oeste and Setor Universitario, and many of the streets have numbers rather than names
