The
airport
is 20km northeast of the city, connected to the centre by an hourly shuttle express bus service ($2) that leaves from directly in front of the terminal, and takes you to PraA§a da SA© via the beach districts and Campo Grande. The length of the ride varies according to traffic, but if you're going back the other way to catch a plane make sure you allow an hour and a half. The bus marked "Politeama" also runs to the centre, but gets very crowded and isn't a good idea with luggage. A taxi to the centre will set you back around $25; pay at the kiosk in the arrivals area and hand the voucher to the driver.

(tel 071/358-4970 for info) - well organized and packed with almost every conceivable facility - is 8km east of the centre. To get to the Cidade Alta and its hotels from here, it's best to either take a taxi (about $10) or catch the comfortable
executivo
bus from the Iguatemi shopping centre across the busy road from the RodoviA?ria - there's a footbridge to stop you getting mown down by traffic. The bus costs $2 and makes a stately progress through the beach districts of Pituba and Rio Vermelho before dropping you in the PraA§a da SA©. Other useful information
