Eating and drinking

The majority of Varna's places to eat and drink are along the route of the evening korso , which stretches east from pl. Nezavisimost along bul. Knyaz Boris I, before turning down Slivnitsa towards the Sea Gardens. There are plenty of cafAŠs and restaurants lining the route, although the Varna restaurant scene changes so rapidly that it's sometimes difficult to provide precise recommendations. In general the places along this main strip are more expensive than elsewhere in Bulgaria, but not prohibitively so. On the whole restaurants in Varna tend to open daily from noon until 11pm or midnight, unless otherwise stated.

The snack bars around pl. Nezavisimost and along Knyaz Boris I are the best places to grab breakfast ; while a succession of sladkarnitsi along Knyaz Boris I sell pastries, banitsa (small savoury pastries, filled with sheep's cheese), small pizzas and other snacks throughout the day. If the local fast food doesn't appeal, there's a Pizza Hut at Knyaz Boris I 62, a KFC just opposite the Cathedral and a Macdonald's on pl. Nezavisimost.

For evening drinking , most of central Varna's cafAŠs serve alcohol well into the night, and, in summer, a string of seemingly numberless outdoor bars and fish restaurants lines the municipal beach, accessible via pathways that lead down from the Sea Gardens. Most of these are temporary, seasonal affairs, and few have regular names, and it's best simply to wander along until you see a place that takes your fancy.
