The Greyhound station is in the centre of town at 822 3rd Ave and 8th Street (daily 8.30am-8.30pm; tel 624-5090) and handles two buses daily (morning and evening) for the twelve-hour ride to Prince George ($85 one-way). The VIA Rail train station is on the waterfront at 1st Avenue and the foot of 2nd Street (open 2hr either side of departures and arrivals; tel 627-7589, 627-7304 or 1-800/561-8630). Trains to Prince George for connections from Prince George to Edmonton via Jasper currently leave on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday at 8am, arriving in Prince George at 8.10pm. If you're thinking of taking the train right through, note that you have to overnight in Prince George as there are no through-trains to Jasper or Edmonton. The local airport is on Digby Island just across the harbour, with ferry connections to the BC and Alaska Marine ferry terminals and shuttle bus connections to downtown. Check-in with your airline in downtown at least two hours before flight departure for the combined shuttle-ferry service to the airport. Air BC (tel 624-4554 or 1-800/663-3721) flies to Vancouver and has a base in town at 112 6th St. Local firms Inland Air (tel 627-1351 or 1-888/624-2577) and Harbour Air (tel 627-1341 or 1-800/689-4234) both run flights to Sandspit on the Queen Charlotte Islands .
