Wolfville is on the Acadian Lines bus route connecting Halifax and Yarmouth. Buses stop - inconveniently - on the Acadia University campus, a good ten-minute walk west of the tiny town centre, which consists of a few blocks of Main Street and several subsidiary side streets. The tourist office is located on the east side of the town centre, just off Main Street on Willow Avenue (daily: May-June & Sept to mid-Oct 9am-5pm; July & Aug 9am-7pm; tel 542-7000). They have information on the whole of the Annapolis Valley as well as local accommodation lists and details of the Cape Split hike . The town has several splendid inns and B&Bs , the pick of the bunch in attractively renovated old mansions. Tempting choices include the Blomidon Inn , 127 Main St (tel 542-2291 or 1-800/565-2291, www.blomidon.ns.ca ; $80-100), an elegant sea captain's mansion with 21 guestrooms and four acres of carefully maintained gardens; the plush and rather formal Victoriana of the balconied and high-gabled Tattingstone Inn , just 700m or so west of the centre at 434 Main St (tel 542-7696 or 1-800/565-7696, www.tattingstone.ns.ca ; $80-100); and the appealing Seaview House B&B , in an attractive older house with a balcony and veranda in the centre just off Main Street at 8 Seaview Ave (tel 542-1436; $40-60; May-Sept).

For food , there are good snacks and cakes and great coffee at The Coffee Merchant , Elm at Main; everything from pizzas through to burgers and sandwiches at inexpensive Al's (closes at 6pm), just down the street; and delicious salads and seafood at the smart Acton's CafAŠ , 268 Main St (tel 542-7525). Finally, there's the Chez la Vigne restaurant, 17 Front St, which offers exquisite French regional cuisine at surprisingly affordable prices.
