Eating, drinking and nightlife

Regina has a clutch of good downtown restaurants , lively places whose prices are usually very reasonable. However, many of them close early and don't open at all on Sundays; in emergencies try the big hotels whose standard-issue snack bars are nearly always open daily to 9.30pm. The city's nightlife is hardly inspiring, but the university students provide a little stimulation for the couple of downtown clubs, whilst local roustabouts and government workers alike tend to stick to C&W. As a general rule, avoid the downtown bars , which are really not very pleasant, and try one of Regina's brewpubs , though most are a bit far from the centre: Brewster's , 1832 Victoria Ave E, has the largest selection of beers; Bonzinni's , 4634 Albert St, in South Regina, also serves good Italian food; The Bushwakker , 2206 Dewdney Ave, has twelve types of beer, plus a large selection of single-malt Scotches; The Barley Mill , 6155 Rochdale Blvd, is an English-style pub.

For theatre , call the Regina Performing Arts Centre, 1077 Angus St (tel 779-2279 or 779-2277), to find out what's being put on there by the two principal groups, the Saskatchewan Community Theatre and the Regina Little Theatre. The Regina Symphony Orchestra (tel 566-9555) performs at the Saskatchewan Centre of the Arts, 200 Lakeshore Drive (tel 525-9999 or 1-800/667-8497).
