Liberia's supremely helpful tourist office (Mon-Sat 9am-noon & 1-5pm, Sun 9am-1pm; tel 666-1606) is on C 1, five minutes' walk south of the Parque Central, in the same building as the Museo de Sabanero. Staff will book hotels, help with directions and place international phone calls at cost. In the high season, especially, they also function partially as a tour service , using local operators. Staff speak some English and give unbiased advice and information. The office is a non-profit-making service, and any donations are appreciated.

The efficient correo , Av 3, C 8 (Mon-Fri 7.30am-6pm, Sat 7.30am-noon), is a bit hard to find: it's between Av 3 and Av 5 in the low-slung white house across from an empty square field bordered by mango trees. Liberia's one Internet cafAŠ , Cybermania (daily 8am-10pm), located in a small business centre on the north side of the Parque Central, is efficient, friendly, air-conditioned and cheap. There are plenty of banks , many of them on Av Central, leading into town. The Banco de San JosAŠ deals with Mastercard and Cirrus, while the Banco Popular next door does VISA and Plus cards - both have ATMs. The next one along, Bancredito seems to take both. The Banco de Costa Rica, across from the Parque Central, will change travellers' cheques, but its ATM only accepts Costa Rican-issued cards.
