Eating and drinking

The eating and drinking scene has improved enormously in the last decade, but the city is still pretty dead at night. The most popular cafe around is the Italian-run Adria , on Masarykova 31, which serves great ice cream and pizzas, but if you want to sit outside and sup beer Czech-style, try Spalicek , at the top of Zelny trh, which has tables outside in summer and lashings of Gambrinus beer from Plzen, or the replica functionalist cafe, Zemanova kavarna , near the Janaaek Theatre. The micro-brewery (and pension), Pegas , on Jakubska, is deservedly popular, but you could swing by Hlidka , up in the Spilberk castle or Sanghai , Pekarska 42, a decent first-floor Chinese restaurant. Internet cafes include Internetova kavarna mladych at Josefksa 15 (daily 10am-5.30pm; tel 05/4221 1677) and Internet Club at Kabatnikova (daily 10am-11.30pm; tel 05/41245091).
