. Buses,
guaguas
and
motoconchos
will all drop you off along the main strip, a crowded patchwork of restaurants and bars, tour operators and souvenir shops.

Three different buildings with eye-catching architecture and wild ethnic-style interiors set around a tranquil pool area. This place is a real haven yet it's just a five-minute stroll from the town centre. US$75-100. Residencia Dominicana Calle Las Orquideas tel & fax 809/571-0890, resdom@hipaniola.com . Small hotel with good, clean rooms and a peaceful garden and pool. Located on the Orquideas road, south of the C-5, at the eastern end of town. The place usually fills up, so it's a good idea to reserve in advance. US$25-50.
