fiogf49gjkf0d Quito has embraced the
Internet
with much enthusiasm, and the city has dozens of cybercafes. The average
cost
is $1-1.5 per hour, usually with sliding-scale rates for fractions of an hour. Although most places offer at least coffee and packaged muffins or biscuits, not all could properly be described as "cafes": some are small, bare rooms with a few desks and terminals, while others are quite stylishly decorated, play funky music and offer a wide range of drinks and snacks. Many cybercafes also offer a cheap calling service via the Internet
, and the majority, aimed squarely at backpackers, are concentrated in the Mariscal area of the new town, particularly around the intersection of Juan Leon Mera and Calama. Below is a selection of some of the most popular.
Ciber Net Cafe
, cnr of Reina Victoria and Colon, under the post office. Also has a self-service washing machine and dryer.
Cybercafe Cultural
, Juan Rodriguez 228 and Reina Victoria. Consistently one of the cheapest in town.
Cybermania
, 1st floor, Amazonas 239 (opposite
Hotel HotHello
). Small, friendly and family run.
Monkey On-line
, cnr of Juan Leon Mera and Jorge Washington. Long-established place with helpful staff.
Onda Cyber Cafe
, Calama 369 next door to
El Maple II
restaurant. Large, stylishly decorated, with good music and a proper cafe menu and seating.
Papaya Net
, cnr of Calama and Juan Leon Mera. Always packed with gringos and has a book exchange.
Pizza Net
, Calama 354, opposite
Onda Cyber Cafe
. There's usually room here when the others are full. Also serves good pizza by the slice.
Planeta Net
, Calama, between Juan Leon Mera and Amazonas (entrance past artesania stall). Very friendly and with helpful staff. One of the best Internet phone connections in town.
Pool Net
, Calama 233 and Diego de Almagro. As the name suggests, this also has four pool tables.
Cafe Web
, Amazonas 333 and Jorge Washington. One of several at the southern end of Amazonas near Parque El Ejido. Discounts for students.
