There are plenty of places to eat and drink in San Miguel. By day, there are a number of reasonable lunch places in town, especially in the area around the bus terminal, where cheap comedores and pastry cafAİs offer quick and simple meals. By night the focus shifts to the comedores and fast-food chains (including Wendy's and Pizza Hut ) along Av Roosevelt between 7a and 11a C Pte.

Bati Jugos Carlitos , 1a Av Nte and 4 C Pte. Small cafAİ serving excellent snacks, lunches and coffee, plus extremely good papaya licuados .

Comedor Esmeralda , 8a Av Nte between 4a and 6a C Ote. Good, basic breakfasts and comidas a la vista . Closed Sun.

El PaAsa , Av Roosevelt Sur opposite the Hotel TrA?pico Inn . Popular and reasonably priced Mexican food with outdoor tables.

Gran Tejano , 4a C Ote, just up from the Parque. Large and reasonably priced steaks and meat dishes.

La Barrita , 4a C Ote, two blocks up from the cathedral. Well-prepared and reasonably priced meat and chicken dishes in an informal setting. Closed Sun.

La Pema , 5km from town on the road to UsulutA?n (tel 667 6055). El Salvador's most renowned restaurant. It's not cheap, but the huge servings of mariscada , a creamy soup with every conceivable type of seafood, and the bowls of fruit salad served as an accompaniment will mean you won't feel like eating again for a while. Come here and treat yourself. Daily 11am-5pm.

Oasis , 4a C Ote, opposite Pizza Hut . Possibly the best juices and licuados in the country; huge glasses go for around US$1.50. Closed Sun.

PupuserAa Chilita , 8a C Ote at 6a Av Nte. A barn of a neighbourhood pupuserAa , particularly popular at the weekends. Three or four pupusas and a fruit juice make an adequate meal. Open until around 9.30pm.

PupuserAa El Paraiso , on Parque GuzmA?n. Well-prepared pupusas and comida a la vista .

Tacos Taurino , Av JosAİ Simeon CaAħas at 4a C Pte. Lunch kiosk, with tables set out on the pavement, serving hot lunches and tacos. Very popular with local office workers.
