Annecy's restaurants churn out rather unimaginative fare to feed all the tourists. You'll find a string of inexpensive restaurants overlooking the canal along quai PerriA?re, and rue Ste-Claire, among which Le Pichet , 13 rue PerriA?re (menus 78F-199F/a?¬11.90-30.35), is dependable. One of the best venues is the Auberge de Savoie (tel 04.50.45.03.05; closed Wed; menus around 200F/a?¬30.50) on the far side of the canal at place St-FranA§ois, serving Savoyard specialities and fish. Le Petit Zinc (tel 04.50.51.12.93), nearby at 11 rue Pont-Morens, manages best to rise above the surrounding mediocrity, serving hearty Savoyard fare in a warm interior (lunch from 65F/a?¬9.91, dinner from 150F/a?¬22.88). For more adventurous cooking head to Au GrA© du Vent (tel 04.50.52.85.26; menus 85F-175F/a?¬12.96-26.68), 2 place Ste Claire, with an exciting and varied carte that goes beyond the local terroir standards.

Rue Ste-Claire also has some of the town's liveliest nightlife in the music-bars Pub Medievale and Red Zed . And for a quiet coffee, the bohemian-flavoured CafA© Cort , by the old town gate at the end of the street, will fit the bill.
