bike rental
through TouvA©lo, 26 rue de Paris (tel 03.86.34.28.11). The main
shopping
centre is in the new town north of the city walls, and there's a Saturday
market
in place Vauban.
For cheap accommodation , head for the bargain-priced HA?tel du Parc , opposite the train station at 3 place de la Gare (tel 03.86.34.17.00; under 160F/a?¬24), which is clean and friendly, with an inexpensive restaurant and locals' cafA©. More modern, and comfortable, is the Dak' HA?tel , 119 rue de Lyon, 4km from the town centre (tel 03.86.31.63.20, fax 03.86.34.25.28; 220-300F/a?¬34-46), while the most expensive option is the charming Hostellerie de la Poste , 13 place Vauban (tel 03.86.34.16.16, fax 03.86.34.19.19, www.hostelleriedelaposte.com ; 500-600F/a?¬76-91), a former coaching inn, with twelve sumptous rooms, a restaurant serving an overwhelming choice of desserts (menus 155-410F/a?¬23.63-62.50) and a relaxing flower-strewn courtyard. If you have a car, take the scenic, wooded road towards nearby VA©zelay, along which, after 5km, you'll find the pleasant riverside Moulin de Ruats (tel 03.86.34.97.00, fax 03.86.31.65.47, www.moulin-des-ruats.com ; 300-400F/a?¬46-61; closed mid-Jan to mid-Feb), with an exceptional restaurant and alfresco rural dining (closed all day Mon, Tues lunch & all day Tues in low season; from 155F/a?¬23.63). The attractive Camping Municipal de Sous-Roche (tel 03.86.34.10.39; March-Oct), and the Ferme-Auberge des Chatelaines (tel 03.86.34.16.37; closed Thurs-Sun mid-Oct to April), are a couple of kilometres out of town on the route de Corbigny/Us.
