If you come in on the autoroute , running along the RhA?ne's left bank, you exit onto avenue Gambetta, with the old town, its ramparts replaced by boulevards, to your left. To the southeast of the old town you'll find the gare routiA?re , the gare SNCF and the tourist office on parvis de la Gare (June-Aug Mon-Sat 9am-7pm, Sun 9am-noon; rest of year Mon 2-6.30pm, Tues-Sat 9am-12.30pm & 2-6.30pm; tel 04.75.44.90.40, valence.tourisme@wanadoo.fr ).

For mid-range hotel rooms , try the Europe , 15 av FA©lix-Faure (tel 04.75.43.02.16, fax 04.75.43.61.75; 220-300F/a?¬34-46), with satellite TV and en-suite showers. If you want to splash out, Yan's Hotel has spacious rooms in a stylish modern building with park and pool south of the city on the rte de MontA©lA©ger (tel 04.75.55.52.52, fax 04.75.42.27.37; 500-600F/a?¬76-91). Among the many budget options are the Angleterre , 11 av FA©lix-Faure (tel 04.75.43.00.35, fax 04.75.43.75.17; 160-220F/a?¬24-34), and the HI hostel , L'EperviA?re , on chemin de l'EperviA?re (tel 04.75.42.32.00, fax 04.75.56.20.67), by the RhA?ne, 2km south of the city (bus line #1); the hostel is quite expensive but has good sports facilities - swimming pool, sailing - and bike rental. The municipal campsite is in the hostel grounds (same number; all year).
