The main local
festival
is

, which is rather like a smaller version of Munich's
Oktoberfest
, except that it takes place twice annually, lasting for a fortnight on each occasion. The spring version, the
FrA?hjahrsplA€rrer
, begins on the Sunday after Easter; its autumn counterpart, the
HerbstplA€rrer
, takes place on the last week in August and the first in September. Other annual events are the
Jakober Kirchweih
at the end of July and beginning of August; the
Friedensfest
(Peace Festival) on August 8; the
Mozartsommer
in late August and early September; and the
Christkindlesmarkt
, whose opening on November 23 is marked by a colourful pageant, and which features live Christmas music each subsequent weekend. Other useful information
