fiogf49gjkf0d Demand for
tickets
for the
Richard-Wagner-Festspiele
is so great that you need to write the year before you wish to visit to KartenbA?ro, Festspielleitung Bayreuth, 95402 Bayreuth, but this only ensures entry into the lottery, and the normal waiting time for first-time individual applicants is between three and seven years. The various Wagner societies around the world receive special allocations, but the only other way you will realistically get to see a performance is to take an expensive package tour from abroad. Formal evening dress is the normal attire, but is not
de rigueur
. Note that it is necessary to pay more than one visit to see the entire Wagner canon (six different operas are normally staged in a season), and that each festival has a fair number of non-performance days. For the latest information, visit the festival Web site (
www.bayreuther-festspiele.de
).
Advance tickets for
opera, concerts
and
drama
performances in the MarkgrA¤flisches Opernhaus and other local venues can be bought from the box office in the tourist office premises at Luitpoldplatz 9 (tel 09 21/6 90 01). Musical
festivals
by no means begin and end with the Wagner jamboree; in addition, there's the
Musica Bayreuth
in early May, the
FrA¤nkische Festwoche
at the end of the same month and
Bayreuther Barock
in late September. Folklore events include
Maisels Weissbierfest
in mid-May, the
Volksfest
in early June and the
BA?rgerfest
at the beginning of July.
