If not one of the Rhineland's more renowned gastronomic centres, Koblenz still has a decent choice of places to eat and drink.

Historischer Weinkeller , Mehlgasse 16. Cosy wine bar-restaurant in a vaulted medieval cellar. Closed Mon.

Irish Pub , Burgstr. 7. Has all the main Irish beers on tap, and features live music on Mon and Wed evenings.

Konigsbacher , An der Konigsbach 8. Capacious restaurant in the premises of the eponymous brewery, located in the south of town on the road to Schloss Stolzenfels. It makes an excellent bitter-tasting Pils , and also has a very fruity Kolsch named Richmodis , which is made by its subsidiary in Cologne.

Loup de Meer , Neustadt 12. Small speciality fish restaurant, located just to the west of the Schloss. May-Sept evenings only, closed Sun, Oct-April closed Sat & Sun.

Ratskeller , Am Plan 11. Typically reliable choice for gutburgerliche Kuche .

Salatgarten , Gymnasialstr. 14. Self-service vegetarian and wholefood restaurant. Closed Sun.

Stresemann , Rheinzollstr. 8. The bistro-style cooking here is among the most imaginative in town. Closed Tues (also Mon in winter).

Weindorf , Julius-Wegeler-Str. 2. A complex of four wine taverns, grouped together in the form of a village square. Although very tourist-oriented, it's a good place to sample the local Riesling and Muller-Thurgau vintages, and to eat typically Rhenish dishes. Closed all Nov.
