The
Hauptbahnhof
is at the southwestern corner of the island, right beside the harbour. Just across from the entrance, at Am Hauptbahnhof, is the

Among the guesthouses and pensions on the island are LA¤dine , In der Grub 25 (tel 0 83 82/53 26; DM60-79/a?¬30-39), Limmer , In der Grub 16 (tel 0 83 82/58 77; DM60-79/a?¬30-39), and Seerose , Auf der Mauer 3 (tel 0 83 82/2 41 20; DM100-124/a?¬50-62). The many medium-range hotels include Inselgraben , Hintere Metzgergasse 4-6 (tel 0 83 82/54 81; DM100/a?¬50-DM199/a?¬99), Alte Post , Fischergasse 3 (tel 0 83 82/9 34 60; DM150-199/a?¬75-99), and Insel-Hotel , Maximilianstr. 42 (tel 0 83 82/50 17; DM150-199/a?¬75-99). Along Seepromenade are the four swankiest hotels, the most exclusive being Beyerischer Hof (tel 0 83 82/91 50, www.bayerischerhof-lindau.de ; DM250/a?¬125-DM300/a?¬150 and over). There are plenty of rooms in private houses (less than DM60/a?¬30-DM79/a?¬39), but most are on the mainland. The youth hostel is at Herbergsweg 11 (tel 0 83 82/9 67 10, fax 9 67 50; DM29/a?¬14.50) on mainland Lindau; take bus #1, #3, or #6 from the Hauptbahnhof. By the Australian border at Fraunhoferstr. 20 (tel 0 83 82/7 22 36) is the campsite , Park-Camping Lindau am See .
Inevitably, the leading
restaurants
are in the waterfront hotels, but there are plenty of excellent and far less expensive alternatives:

are both eminently recommendable. Even cheaper restaurants, plus a few bars, can be found in the suitably named In der Grub, a block north of Maximilianstrasse. Other useful information
