BrA¤ustA?berl Hacklberg , BrA¤uhausplatz 7. A highly atmospheric beer hall, complete with Passau's biggest beer garden. It's located alongside its brewery, a handsome Baroque building on the north side of the Danube (cross by the western of the two bridges, the SchanzlbrA?cke) which produces around a dozen different beers. Highly innovative meals are also served.

BrA¤ustA?berl LA¶wenbrauerei , Kleiner Exerzierplatz 17. The beer hall of Passau's LA¶wenbrauerei (no relation of its Munich namesake), which brews light, dark and wheat beers.

Goldener Schiff , Unterer Sand 8. A good old-fashioned GaststA¤tte, popular with students and seasoned drinkers alike. The food is tasty and cheap; the beers come from the Peschl brewery.

Heilig-Geist-Stift-Schenke , Heilggeistgasse 4. Wonderful Weinstube in a fourteenth-century hospital building, serving wines from its own vineyard and some of the best meals in Passau, including fish dishes and Austrian pastries. In addition to the main dining rooms, its has intimate candlelit cellars and a peaceful rear garden. Closed Wed.

Innstadt BrA¤ustA?berl , Schmiedgasse 23. The beer hall of the nearby Innstadt brewery, offering good-value poultry dishes and other traditional fare. Closed Mon.

Oberhaus , Veste Oberhaus. CafA©-restaurant in the castle grounds, with a terrace offering a grandstand view over the city. Closed Nov-March.

Peschl-Terrasse , RosstrA¤nke 4. Right alongside the Peschl brewery is its own terrace restaurant, commanding a fine view over the Danube. Closed Mon.
