An excellent way to get an overall impression of the city is to take the 45-minute DreiflA?sse-Rundfahrt cruise (DM11/a?¬5.50) offered by Wurm & KA¶ck, HA¶llgasse 26 (tel 08 51/92 92 92). From March to early November there are daily sailings from the quay at Rathausplatz, with departures every 20 to 30 minutes at the height of the season. Between May and mid-October, the same company also runs cruises (DM38/a?¬19 single, DM46/a?¬23 return) to Linz, the capital of Upper Austria, daily except Wednesdays.

The Maidult is a large and colourful market and beer festival , while during the EuropA¤ische Wochen in June, July and August, concerts are played by internationally renowned orchestras and musicians, and there's also ballet and opera. Passau's star venue , worth checking on throughout the year, is the eighteenth-century Theater im FA?rstbischA¶flichen Opernhaus, Gottfried-SchA¤ffer-Str. 2-4 (tel 08 51/9 29 19 13). Scharfrichterhaus, Milchgasse 2 (tel 08 51/3 59 00), has live music and cabaret, plus a cinema and a relaxed bar.
