Schweinfurt's
Hauptbahnhof
, a junction of the WA?rzburg-Bamberg line with that to Erfurt, lies 2km west of the Altstadt. Much closer to the centre, albeit a bit to the east, is the
Stadtbahnhof
, one stop away in the direction of Hassfurt. The

, which depart from the jetty at the western end of the Altstadt.

The youth hostel is about 1km north of the Hauptbahnhof at Niederwerrner Str. 17 1/2 (tel 0 97 21/2 14 04, fax 2 35 81; DM21/a?¬10.50). All the hotels listed above except Panorama have restaurants , and that in Ross ranks as the best in town. There are also plenty of good places to eat and drink around the Markt, with outside tables in summer: Brauhaus am Markt , Markt 30, is the tap of the local brewery, Schweinfurter Brauhaus, while KunstcafA© , Markt 12, is an artists' cafA© with regular exhibitions.
The main local
festivals
are the
Stadtmaifeste
, a series of markets held each May weekend; the two-week-long
Schweinfurter Volksfest
in late June and early July, and the
Strassenfest
in mid-September. All kinds of
music

theatre
are performed by visiting artistes at the
