Backmulde , Karmeliterstr. 11. Very classy restaurant offering innovative Mediterranean-style cooking. Closed Sun & Mon.

CafAŠ Schumacher , Wormser Str. 23. This long-established family-run concern is a good choice for Kaffee und Kuchen or a light meal. Closed Mon.

Domhof-Brauerei , Grosse Himmelgasse 6. Hausbrauerei run in association with the nearby hotel of the same name. It serves Palatinate speciality dishes and has a large beer garden.

Domnapf , Domplatz 1. Historic Gasthaus named after the old stone trough in front of the Dom. Its four dining rooms are all tastefully furnished; the food is of a high standard, the fish dishes especially, and the set lunch is a particular bargain. Closed Sun evening & Mon.

Maximilian , Korngasse 15. Extremely trendy bistro-cum-cafAŠ, a good choice for breakfast or a snack.

Pfalzgraf , Gilgenstr. 26b. Fine traditional and quite moderately priced GaststA¤tte. Closed Wed evening & Thurs.

Wirtschaft zum Alten Engel , MA?hlturmstr. 1a. Wonderfully atmospheric restaurant in a vaulted cellar decked out with antique furniture. The food is outstanding, and includes Alsatian as well as local dishes. Evenings only, closed Sun.

Zum Halbmond , Nikolausgasse 4. Authentic Hungarian dishes and wines are served up in Speyer's most picturesque half-timbered building.
