WA?rzburg's festivals

WA?rzburg hosts several
wine festivals
throughout the year. The series begins with the
WA?rzburger Weindorf
in late May and early June, held in some forty little huts set up on the Markt. The BA?rgerspital holds its
Weinfest
in late June; the Hofkeller has a similar event in the Hofgarten soon after. In September, the season ends with the
WA?rzburger Weinfest
, which is held in a huge tent.
The main
musical
event is the
Mozartfest
throughout June, in which Mozart concerts are held outdoors in the Hofgarten and indoors by candlelight in the opulent settings of the Weisser Saal and Kaisersaal of the Residenz. There's also a shorter festival devoted to Bach, the
Bachtage
, in late November and early December. At the beginning of July is the most important
popular
and
religious
festival, the fortnight-long
Kilianifest
. This consists for the most part of a huge funfair at the Talavera, a fairground on the left bank of the Main opposite the Congress-Centrum. However, it begins on a Saturday afternoon with a costumed pageant through the city; the following morning, there's a solemn religious procession followed by High Mass in the Dom.
