One decidedly functional attraction of Gibraltar is its role as a port for Morocco , though the timetable is subject to weather conditions even at the best of times (the trip across the Strait is invariably very rough). The only ferry service currently operating is the Estrella to Tangier on Monday and Wednesday at 8.15am and Friday at 6.30pm, with the return on Sunday and Tuesday at 3pm and Friday at 9pm; the trip takes about two hours. Tickets cost around A?18 one-way or A?30 return for foot passengers and A?40 single or A?80 return for a four-seater car and passengers; however, things tend to change frequently and you should confirm timetables and ticket prices with the operator, Tourafrica, in the International Commercial Centre, 2a Main St (tel 77666, fax 76754). A new catamaran service to Tangier, the Mons Calpe , leaves at 9.30am daily with additional sailings on Monday and Friday at 7pm; the crossing takes 1hr 15min and tickets cost A?30 for a period return (valid three months) and A?25 for a day-trip. Bookings and confirmation of timetables should be made through Bland Travel, Cloister Building, Irish Town (tel 79200, fax 76189). There are also daily flights to London with GB Airways and Monarch Airlines as well as expensive daily flights to Casablanca and Marrakesh; details of these and travel connections with Spain are also available from Bland Travel.
