Arrival and information

There is some accommodation information at the airport , but unless you know where you're going it's easier to take a taxi for the 3km into town, and sort things out there. The vast majority of visitors arrive by boat at the new northern jetty , which is 1km north of town in ToA?rlos, where a veritable horde of room-owners pounces on the newly arrived. The scene is actually quite intimidating, and so, if you can avoid the grasping talons, it is far better to go a hundred metres further where a row of offices deal with official hotels, rented rooms and camping information, or get the bus into town to the extremely helpful Mykonos Accommodation Centre on A?noplon DhinamAİon near TrAa PigA?dia (tel 02890/23 160, fax 24 137, mac@mac.myk.forthnet.gr ).

The tourist police and local accommodation centre (open high season only) can be found up from the ferry stalls near the old ferry landing. The harbour curves around past the dull, central PolikandhriA?ti beach, off the north end of which you'll find the north bus station , for ToA?rlos, A?yios StAİfanos, ElAa and A?no MAİra. The south bus station , for beaches to the south, is across town, in the LA?kka area where the post office , Olympic Airways office and several motorbike agencies can be found. Buses to all the most popular beaches and resorts run frequently until the early hours. Taxis run from PlatAa MavroyAİnous on the seafront and from the south bus station, and their rates are fixed and quite reasonable; try Mykonos Radio Taxi (tel 02890/22 400). Find a copy of the free Mykonos Summertime magazine or, better yet, the Athinorama Mykonos Guide (a?Ĵ1.50) which can be purchased from tourist offices or bookshops.

Hydrofoil and ferry tickets are sold at several separate and uncooperative travel agencies on the harbour front. Check out the various possibilities, and if your boat leaves from the new harbour, catch the bus up from the old ferry landing across from the Eurobank.
