fiogf49gjkf0d If you're
arriving
in Bali by air, you'll land at
Ngurah Rai Airport
, which is not in Denpasar as sometimes implied, but just beyond the southern outskirts of Kuta
. Arriving in Denpasar by bemo or public bus from another part of the island, you'll almost certainly be dropped at one of the four main
bus and bemo stations
. Bemos run from these stations into town
. Getting from one bemo station to another is fairly easy, but connections can be time-consuming.
When you're ready to
move on
, destinations south of Denpasar, including Kuta, Ngurah Rai Airport and Sanur, are served by
Tegal
bemo station.
Kereneng
bemo station runs services to Sanur. Batubulan station in the village of Batubulan
runs bemos to Ubud and the east coast, including Candi Dasa, Padang Bai and Singaraja. Ubung bemos run to the north and west of the island, including Gilimanuk, Bedugul and Singaraja. Buses to Java also use Ubung: Jakarta, Solo, Surabaya and Yogya.
Denpasar's
city transport
system relies on the fleet of colour-coded public bemos that shuttle between the city's bemo terminals. Only certain routes are covered, and the complex one-way system often means that the bemos take different routes on each leg of their journey
. Prices are fixed, but tourists are often obliged to pay more - generally between Rp500 and Rp1000 for a cross-city ride.
The
tourist office
is just off Puputan Square, at Jl Surapati 7 (Mon-Thurs 7am-2pm, Fri 7-11am, Sat 7am-1pm; tel 0361/223602).
