Banks and exchange Many of the banks, Sarinah, the post office and Gambir have their own ATM machines, which offer a better rate than any bank or moneychanger. Otherwise, the Bank BNI and Lippobank, just west of the northern end of Jl Jaksa on Jl Kebon Siri, offer the best rates in town, with the latter also offering credit-card advances. The AMEX office is at Graha Aktiva, Jl Rasuna Said, Kuningan (catch bus #11 heading south from Sarinah) and is currently the only place that accepts Australian dollar travellers' cheques (AMEX only). The InterAsia moneychanger at Jl Wahid Hasyim 96a is reasonable for cash exchanges, but offers poor rates for travellers' cheques. Hospitals and clinics The MMC hospital on Jl Rasuna Said in Kuningan is the best in town (tel 021/5203435). The private SMI (Sentra Medika International) clinic at Jl Cokroaminoto 16 in Menteng (tel 021/3157747), is run by Australian and Indonesian doctors. Immigration office At Jl Teuku Umar 1, 5min east of the southern end of Jl Wahid Hasyim (Mon-Thurs 8am-3pm, Fri 8am-noon). Internet access Most efficiently at the GPO (Mon-Fri 8am-8pm, Sat 8am-7pm, Sun 9am-3pm; Rp2000 for 15min). Also at the Wartel, Jl Jaksa 17 (daily 8am-9pm; Rp15,000 for 1hr), and Snapy on Jl Thamrin to the north of the President Hotel (Rp14,000 for 1hr). Maps The best map of the city is the one published by Periplus. Post office The GPO lies to the north of Lapangan Benteng (Mon-Sat 8am-8pm, Sun 9am-5pm), northeast of Medan Merdeka (catch bus #15 or #P15 from Jl Kebon Siri, to the north of Jl Jaksa). Poste restante is currently at counter no. 55. Telephone services There is no main government-run communications centre in the city. The Indosat building at 21 Jl Medan Merdeka Barat has IDD and HCD on its ground floor (cash only), as do the RTQ warpostel at Jl Jaksa 17 (8am-midnight) and the wartel on Jl Kebon Siri Barat.
