Car and bike rental There are plenty of places renting vehicles with and without drivers. Kotasi (tel 0370/693435) is the local transport co-operative and has two counters . Prices start at Rp90,000 per day on a self-drive basis. Car rental includes half insurance (the maximum you'll pay in case of an accident is US$500). They also have pushbikes for Rp12,000, but remember that the road north of Senggigi is extremely steep. It is also worth checking at Lombok Mandiri (tel 0370/693477), which operates a similar half insurance policy and Nominasi (tel 0370/693690) which rents vehicles with full insurance; the maximum you'll pay in case of an accident is Rp200,000. Expect to pay around Rp25,000 for a driver for the day.

Hospitals and clinics Some of the luxury hotels have in-house doctors who can be consulted: Holiday Inn (tel 0370/693444); Sheraton (tel 0370/693333) 3-11pm; Senggigi Beach Hotel (tel 0370/693210). There is also a clinic (tel 0370/693210) near Senggigi Beach Hotel which operates a 24hr call-out service. For anything serious, you'll have to go to a hospital in the four-cities area .

Internet access There are several Internet cafA©s along the main street: Bulan CybercafA© (8.30am-10.30pm) is as good as any and prices are fairly standard at Rp400 per minute.

Post office Located in the centre of Senggigi (daily 8am-5pm). Poste restante is available here; get mail addressed to you at Post Office, Senggigi, Lombok 83355, West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia.

Telephone services There are a couple of wartels in the centre of Senggigi and one just above the Sheraton with longer hours (7am-midnight).
