The rumah makan in Wamena serve almost identical food , the choice obviously being limited to what the valley can produce, but wonderful prawns, goldfish and crayfish are plucked daily from Sungai Baliem, and the speciality hot lemon/orange juice is a joy on cold valley evenings. For the cheapest food in town, the market is literally surrounded on all sides by Padang-style warung. The most popular place in town for foreigners, missionaries and wealthier locals is Mas Budi, around the corner from the Hotel Trendy, whose speciality is prawns and crayfish at Rp10,000-13,000. About 2km out of town out by the tourist office, Mentari, Jl Yos Sudarso 46, is easily the best restaurant in the Baliem Valley, serving succulent shrimp sate for Rp10,000, and goldfish for Rp8000-12,000. Reski, Jl Trikora next to the Hotel Trikora, is a friendly place with sound cooking, cheaper than the Mas Budi but with a very similar menu.
