Eating and drinking

As for food and drink , there's no problem getting provisions in Clifden, and the town's two main streets harbour plenty of places to eat. For coffee and home-baked cakes, try either Walsh's Bakery , Market Street, or My Tea Shop on Main Street. E.J. King's pub does cheap soups, salads and conventional bar food and has live music every night throughout summer. Clifden has, of late, gained a reputation for excellent evening dining, due in no small part to the delicious seafood served at O'Grady's Seafood Restaurant on Market Square (tel 095/21450). Destry's (tel 095/21722) restaurant/cafAŠ is a quirky little place with a slightly idiosyncratic menu, though the dishes are immaculately prepared and it's by far the best place for vegetarians to dine.

There are plenty of decent bars in Clifden, and several places where you'll find music: for traditional sounds, try Tom King's, Lowry's or Barry's Hotel during the summer, Mannion's or Griffin's at any time of year. Loud and lively E.J. King's on The Square is the likeliest spot for rock 'n' roll and modern folk.
