There is a surprising variety of
places to eat
in Westport at all ends of the market. The
Lemon Peel
just off the Octagon (tel 098/26929), has deservedly gained a good reputation locally by imaginatively improvising with traditional ingredients; the cod steak served on a crab mash with a sweet basil sauce is especially recommended. Two restaurants with similar menus are

, through the arch beside Spectrum Video store on Bridge Street (last seating is early at 9.45pm), and

pub; both serve pasta and pizza dishes. The
Quay Cottage
(tel 098/26412), in a stone building near the harbour, is the place to go for seafood and also has a fine vegetarian menu, while nearby the

Antica Roma
